The Commercialisation PLUS Readiness Assessment tool has been developed to help you understand where to start and how to navigate through the Commercialisation PLUS process, depending on your own personal context.
You can use the Commercialisation PLUS Readiness Assessment at the start of the process or during any step of your Commercialisation PLUS journey. To use the questionnaire, you will need to create an account and assess the readiness of your technology solution against six essential ‘readiness capability’ categories for successful and impactful science commercialisation.
Before you begin, you will need to establish if there are any restrictions or limitations on your ability to commercialise your technology solution.
1. How ‘ready’ is your technology solution for market?
It is important that your research is developed to a point that it delivers consistent and repeatable results from experiments (Proof of Concept) and that you can consistently guarantee your results to potential customers and end users.
This does not necessarily mean that your technology solution is fully developed for market; it is likely that the technology development process will continue in parallel to the Commercialisation PLUS process.
2. Is your idea already public?
Are there any existing solutions or potential competitors in the field of your technology solution? It is important to know whether your idea is novel and has not been disclosed previously by other people. This includes any idea that has been shared publicly, including ideas shared through intellectual property registration, journal articles, commercial products, conference papers, presentations and posters or blogs.
Exploring what has and has not been disclosed to the public is an important basis to help you decide whether commercialisation is an option for your technology solution.
3. Does your research funding allow commercialisation?
If your technology solution has been developed using a grant, donation or funding source, it is important to ensure that you are familiar with the relevant terms and conditions in your funding agreement.
Refer to your funding agreement to understand if there are any potential restrictions on what you can or cannot do with your research results.
